Ligorio, Pirro

Ligorio, Pirro (Napoli, 1514 – Ferrara, 30th October 1583) builder, gardener, painter and cartographer, supported by the Caraffa family. After moving to Rome, he associated with Tramenzi, with whom he published several of his maps, plans and panoramas. He was most interested in the Roman ruins and antiquities. Most of his works are connected to Rome, but he has drawn maps of France, Belgium, Germany and Greece, and the Kingdom of Napoli. He designed the garden of the Villa d’Este. He spent the last years of his life in Ferrara.
