Apponyi, Sándor

Apponyi, Sándor (Paris, 19th January 1844 – Lengyel, 18th April 1925), collector, diplomat, knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece, bibliophile and bibliographer, member of the Hungarian Academy of Science, patron of arts, the man who “re-discovered” the Tabula Hungariae. Thanks to his open-mindedness, literacy and financial background, he could assemble a collection of Hungarian related books, carvings, flyers, and maps in his castle in Poland. However, we don’t know when, where and from whom he bought the Tabula Hungariae and its variations.
